Hi,
I have 2 children ages 2 and 5 and we may be moving to Greenwich Township. I have heard good things about Greenwich K-8 schools but not so great things about Phillipsburg High School. Anyone have any thoughts, info about this. Will there be a new high school? It's a lot easier to make a decision when you hear firsthand information versus reading school statistics. Also, any recommendations for pre-schools? Thanks.

You are correct - elementary and middle schools are great here - I have a 7th grader and 2nd grader and I am very involved in the Schools
As far as the High School goes, everyone I know with high schoolers is more than happy with the academics, just no so crazy about the trailers that a lot of the students have classes in - however the students LOVE the trailers...they are new, clean and air conditioned. The ratio of graduates entering college have also greatly increased over the years. We are all anxious about the new building project, and unfortunately the State has us on hold for the time, but there is a large group of parents as well as school boards from all the sending districts who are working together and storming Trenton to hopefuly see the new school built.
Hope this helps in your decision making!

Elementary and middle schools are fine - not great. There are a large number of middle schoolers who make high honors/honor roll, but when they get to high school (yes, that denigrated high school in Phillipsburg), they quickly find out that they are behind in both math and science, should they choose to take honors courses their freshman year. This may not apply to all Greenwich honors students, but I know it has happened to quite a few. Perhaps that was the reason that all the 8th grade teachers were replaced this year?
The academics at P'burg are very good. Some students graduating in the past few years have gone on to Princeton and MIT...one of the high school math teachers takes great pride in knowing that there is a PHS student in nearly every one of the top 50 schools listed in US News & World Report.
There are at least three preschools in Greenwich - my children attended Stewartsville Playschool and we were happy with the program.

We have lived here for 3 year and are very happy with the school. Our son is in Kindergarten and our daughter in preschool. We have neighbors kids in middle school and high school. They too are veryhappy.

H.S. not good. Bottom line ; P'burg rated number 275 for the whole state. pretty sad. I pay $10,000 a year in property taxes........... for what ? average schools........... at best... and they still want raises................

Schools are good, but not top. Currently going through budget issues. As are many other school districts in the US.

Why was this thread re-incarnated from 2005?
The last post on it was on 10-26-2005.
Then 7footall, suddenly responded to it yesterday.
That had to be back in the saved registry, because the pages don't go back that far (since the new format). You have to do a search for these pages.
