I am the owner of Second Home Child Care Services. We are looking into a new service for families in the area. A Sitter Service -where you can get dependable-reliable-trained sitters to care for your children in your home. Want a night out with the hubby? Have a wedding to go to that doesnt allow children? I was curious to see how much of a need there is for this in this area. I have heard from some families in the town that they have been looking for sitters. Is there a demand for them? Since everyone seems to pay a sitter differently, what do you feel would be a fair hourly rate to pay for such a service? Any feedback would be great.
Thanks,
Liz Kemp

I also think it's a great idea. Are the sitters fully certified?
What kind of time frame is neccessary, are they available the same day?
thanks!

Presently, this is a work in progress. Gathering info-interviewing sitters-advertising etc.
What do you consider fully certified? My business is certified through the state through NORWESCAP-not sure what u meant.
As far as if a sitter would be available for same day care......that would depend on sitter availability. More notice will always be best.
Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated.

I think this is a great idea. Makes it easy for the parents to find a babysitter.

When I was growing up, my town had a place where you could call up and request a babysitter, mother's helper, someone to do light housekeeping, etc. Most of the people that were registered to work with that service were teenagers looking for a job, and the adults would call to request someone to work that afternoon, night, or whenever. It worked out great for both workers and employers.

Hi MizLiz, I just thought I'd pop in to give the thread a bump up. I thought your idea of the Sitter Services was a great one and I would love to see the program take off. How are things going? Did the service take off? Is it up and running, or are you still researching to see if it'll work?

I like the idea of being able to call and, even with short notice, be able to get a sitter for a much needed evening out with hubby. Let us know how to get in touch with you.

Yes, oh yes we would definitely be interested in this service if the price is right. We currently use 2 different people and the average price is $6-7 per hour-per household and these sitters aren't young high school kids either. I welcome the opportunity to call just one # and you do the work to find me a sitter that is available for a reasonable price. I'm also curious how your daycare works....hours, price and flexiblity. You can send me a private message.

It sounds interesting. We would be interested. It seems that most of us hire from the same sitter pool. If there is a function that has us all going it is hard to find a sitter that is not already booked. We pay $8-10 an hour. Please keep us posted on your endeavor. Good luck, I think you would have support!

I LOVE this idea and AM SO GLAD the thread was "ignited" again! :-) Our families are within 45min to 1 hour away and we've never left our child with anyone BUT them. (The trust factor is so incredibly hard these days!) It would be nice to have a "go-to" service that everyone in the community knows of and uses and, more importantly, can attest to! I hope this works out!
