    Sounds like North Korea.

    What I find interesting though, is that the people who seem to be the most involved in politics on the left and right, almost always favor increased centralized government power.

    As a result, doesn't that mean being happy and somewhat apathetic in the middle produce the best balance of government? Maybe Orwell got it wrong.

    That is basically true. The right wing/left wing dichotomy is a system created playpen to divert the masses from the puppet masters who pull the strings of both elements at the top. Republicans and Democrats are the same in essence with only cosmetic differences. It is tantamount to the choice between Campbell's vegetable soup or the generic Shop-Rite brand. Different labels, the same gunk inside.
